A variety of professional care services/supports are delivered by the Alberta Health Services Home Care Team based on the resident’s needs. The Home Care Team monitors and adjusts each resident’s Care Plan, and if care needs can no longer can be met in DSL, the Case Manager will work with the resident and family to find a more appropriate care setting.
Based on the resident’s needs, several personal care supports are delivered by on-site staff. These supports may include assistance with bathing, dressing, medication assistance, etc.
Admission to DSL is determined by the Alberta Health Services Placement Process based on health, residential, and personal care needs. Criteria for eligibility include:
- meets the criteria for the Home Care Program;
- requires residential-based observation and supervision for safety and security 24 hours per day;
- requires frequent assistance with personal care supports; and,
- is the most appropriate housing and care setting available.
Residents pay an accommodation fee set by the Government of Alberta. They are also responsible for medications, personal care supplies, personal laundry, and equipment (e.g., walkers, wheelchairs, bed alarms, etc.). Costs may be shared with Alberta Aids to Daily Living depending on finances (call the Alberta Government toll free line at 310-0000, then 780-427-0731). There is no charge for professional health or personal care services.
All rooms in Continuing Care are Single Occupancy and private.
The accommodation Fee is $2,132/month (effective July 1, 2021). All other charges are optional.
The accommodation fee includes:
- full meals and snacks;
- weekly housekeeping and regular maintenance;
- laundry facilities;
- emergency response;
- 24-hour safety and security monitoring; and,
- social, leisure, and spiritual opportunities.
